Gracie was so excited to get her own bed at the hotel we stayed at before the doctor appointment. Just had to post a pic.
Some of you have asked how Gracie is doing and I haven't really done a very good job of keeping my blog up to date in regards to her medical stuff.
We continue to manage Gracie's vomiting cycles every 10 to 22 days or so, just depending on how healthy she is. She seems to go into a cycle whenever she gets sick and if she doesn't get sick with anything, she goes into one eventually, but we tend to have a few more days in between. We have never had more than 24 days of her being healthy though.
A couple of months ago, Gracie had a little passing out incident where she was sitting on the floor taking her shoes off and just fell forward. When I went to pick her up, she had her eyes open but was unresponsive for about 30 seconds, even with me asking what happened. Finally she stood up and started walking into the kitchen and fell down again. This time she just picked herself up and continued for the cupboard for her breakfast.
The doctors were obviously concerned because it sounded so much like a seizure, so they sent us to the Children's Hospital in Seattle (again) for a sleep deprived EEG. Many of my friends suggested that maybe this episode was just low blood sugar since that is one of her problems, that is seemingly getting the ball rolling on the metabolic imbalance that she seems to have that sends her into a cycle. I agreed with that, since she had just gotten out of bed and needed to eat breakfast at the time she passed out.
Anyway, we got Gracie up at 4:00 in the morning to try and get her ready for her EEG and she did not sleep through some of the test like they had hoped. So we didn't get a very good reading. But when all was said and done, the neurologist said that she didn't think that Gracie had a seizure, and that it might be the low blood sugar thing. So she wrote us a prescription for a blood sugar testing machine. Whew!
We still have not been able to find out exactly why Gracie vomits in cycles like she does, but we are hopeful that she will grow out of it eventually. Now we just need to manage it and try and keep her hydrated and out of the hospital.
Thanks for your continued prayers on her behalf.
